About Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art known for its emphasis on powerful high kicking and fast hand techniques. It combines combat and self-defense techniques with sport and exercise. At the same time, Taekwondo is a discipline that enhances our spirit and life through training our body and mind. The name Taekwondo is derived from the Korean words “Tae” meaning foot, “Kwon” meaning fist, and “Do” meaning way of.  So Taekwondo literally means “the way of the foot and fist.” The name has only been used since 1955, but the art’s roots began 2,300 years ago in Korea.

About DKFA

DK Fitness Arts provides Arlington Heights and its surrounding areas with a first-class Taekwondo and fitness option for the entire family. A tremendous amount of effort went into making sure our facility provides convenient classes in a clean, modern, focused setting. This is where we hope to create champions, whether on a national sparring level or simply champions of improved wellness.

About Our Program

Our program originated many years ago in a small conference room, with no more than 20 students, and soon became what a local park district proudly described as their largest specialty program – all without advertising or promotions. This has been achieved through the knowledge gained from a traditional lineage of world renown Hall of Fame members. From our humble beginnings, DK Fitness Arts has been destined to build a champion-level program for all to benefit from and enjoy.

Our Objectives:

  • to develop an appreciation for Taekwondo as a sport and as an art
  • to achieve physical fitness through positive participation
  • to improve mental discipline and emotional equanimity
  • to learn self-defense skills
  • to develop a sense of responsibility for one self and others.
